Greenville Triumph Soccer Club Kick Off 2024 Season with Impressive Win

The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club launched into the 2024 season with a dazzling performance, clinching a commanding 3-1 victory over the newly formed Spokane Velocity at Furman's Paladin Stadium. Head coach Rick Wright celebrated his debut win after serving as an assistant coach for the club's first five seasons, setting a promising tone for the campaign ahead. Goals from seasoned players Evan Lee and Leo Castro, coupled with a debut goal from rookie Zion Scarlett, highlighted an exhilarating start to the season.

From the outset, both Greenville and Spokane exhibited their determination to forge chemistry and secure early momentum. Spokane drew first blood with a penalty kick, seizing the initial advantage against Greenville. However, the Triumph responded swiftly, with Zion Scarlett announcing his arrival on the professional stage by skillfully finding the net just minutes after conceding the penalty.

Throughout the encounter, Nate Shultz and the Triumph defense showcased unwavering discipline, maintaining composure and executing crucial defensive maneuvers to stifle Spokane's offensive threats. Despite Spokane's relentless pressure and Greenville's close calls, including Lyam's narrowly missed shot and a spectacular save by new goalkeeper Christian Garner, the score remained deadlocked at halftime.

As the second half unfolded, Greenville surged forward with renewed determination. Zion Scarlett's precision cross found Leo Castro, whose initial shot was deflected by the Spokane goalkeeper, only for Evan Lee to capitalize on the rebound and propel Greenville into the lead.

Greenville's momentum continued to surge as Leo Castro and Lyam MacKinnon combined brilliantly, resulting in Castro's sublime back-heeled finish off MacKinnon's pinpoint cross, extending Greenville's lead to 3-1 in the 60th minute.

The latter stages of the match witnessed Greenville's emerging talents, including Ben Zakowski, Pascal Corvino, and Oliver Hald, making their professional debuts, further adding to the excitement on the field. Despite Spokane's valiant efforts to mount a comeback, Greenville's resolute defense and clinical finishing ultimately proved insurmountable, securing a well-deserved victory.

Reflecting on the triumph, Evan Lee expressed his elation, acknowledging the team's revitalized energy and the motivation drawn from external sources. With an extended break before their next league match against Forward Madison on March 23rd, Greenville Triumph Soccer Club now sets its sights on the upcoming challenge against SC United Bantams in the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, promising to continue their pursuit of success with vigor and determination.
